We've been quite busy over the last few months getting everything ready for the competition, from gaining grants to running workshops. With so much going on, I thought it best to take a second and collate them all in one place so you can keep up-to-date with the latest. 1. The competition is now free The biggest and most exciting news is that the competition is now free to enter. We decided to get rid of the entry fee thanks to funding given by Lancaster Friends and the Duchy of Lancaster Benevolence Fund. We can't thank them enough for their support, and we hope this change makes the competition all the more accessible. As a quick reminder, you can enter both categories (poetry and prose) once each, so be sure to get them in by 22nd March at 5 pm. 2. The prizes have got A LOT bigger Also thanks to the funding mentioned above, the prizes for both categories have now increased! First prize in each category is: £250 prize money, a fully-paid-for online creative writing course, publication in SCAN newspaper and online, publication in CAKE magazine, publication in an anthology of the shortlisted entries, an interview with Bailrigg FM and the opportunity to read their submission live on air, and an invitation to a prize-giving ceremony. (Which we are providing catering for, we hasten to add). Two runners up in each category will receive: £125 prize money, publication in SCAN online and CAKE magazine, publication in an anthology of the shortlisted entries, an invitation to a prize-giving ceremony. The ten shortlisted entries for each category will receive: Publication in an anthology of the shortlisted entries, and an invitation to a prize-giving ceremony. 3. We've done some workshops! We've come to see you at your schools and on Lancaster University campus to run some workshops with you. This has been the best part of the project so far for us, as we've been able to read and engage with your writing up close. Thank you to everyone who has attended one of our workshops, and we hope you found them as useful and fun as we did. 4. We have a YouTube Channel This is a bit of an odd one, but hopefully something you'll find useful. On this channel, we've added all our videos of advice, our words of wisdom, and a sneaky tip from one of our judges. Check it out: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCCVjhtoMPZG0pFlsl-SCGdg 5. We've been talking to the press We've been talking on the radio and to newspapers to try and get the word out about the competition. Hopefully, it'll give you some insights into what we hope to aim to give in this competition, and at the very least you get to listen to Lara and me make fools of ourselves on record. Here's the interview we did with SCAN and check out our interview on Radio Lancashire in our previous blog post! If you fancy a chat with us too, get in contact with us via [email protected] Now we're all up-to-date, here's a reminder that we've got three weeks to go until the competition closes, so get those entries in! Can't wait to see your entries, Ruth Co-Founder of LLA
